Student Comments
Many students have provided very encouraging comments at the end-of-term evaluations, and here is a collection of comments. Listed below are student comments for just one course.
In Fall 2024, I taught Making Financial Decisions, a BBA level core course at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. Here are some nice things my students said about this course.
| I think Professor Lei provides us students with a plethora of resources that we in fact have no excuse to not do well. This course has provided the most support to its students compared to any other Ross course I’ve taken in the past. |
| Qin clearly puts in so much time to make this class what it is. You can just see the sheer amount of effort it takes to code the website to be so specifically adjusted to each student. Whether it is the emails we get to see when we have submitted something, being able to see the records of our scores/attendance in one place, all the resources for exam prep, and seeing what percentile I am in the class, are all so helpful. I really appreciate that. I think he deserves a lot more credit for this. |
| I have not had many professors who are as genuinely invested in their students’ success as Qin. I appreciated his passion and the abundance of practice problems |
| Professor Qin had clear outlines of expectations, and practice of the materials guaranteed success in the course. His systematic teachings and ways students can study on their own, especially the asynchronous zoom recordings, made this course so much more efficient and effective for students like myself who struggle taking in information spontaneously. He makes finance fun for people afraid of finance. |
| Qin is an incredible teacher who is very passionate about his subject. I have learned so much in this class its crazy. It has greatly increased my interest and knowledge in finance |
| Dr. Lei’s personalized website and automated emails made the course exceptionally straightforward. At all times, I knew what was expected of me and how to access ample resources to support my learning. Additionally, Dr. Lei was very available outside of class, through Office Hours, which improved my ongoing learning. His lectures were engaging, and I enjoyed the way he approached attendance. He was highly knowledgeable, very patient/considerate, and and made learning Finance enjoyable. |
| I am so thankful I had Professor Lei, as he is a wonderful and very intelligent professor. He explains the material very clearly and is dedicated to his students. I have heard so many horror stories about poor professors in this department/for this course, but I am happy that this did not apply to Professor Lei in the slightest. |
| I really appreciated how our course feedback during the middle of the semester was taken into account. I think it was clear that our professor appreciated and read through every single thing that he could improve on to make this course better for his students. |
| Expansive problem bank unlike any other course we have seen at Ross and detailed breakdown of course material available synchronously and asynchronously make it easy to succeed in this course, even if one does not intuitively understand the concepts. It is not hard to discern the amount of effort that went into making this happen, and I only wish that other instructors at our school would strive for the same (if applicable). |
| Professor was very good, explained clearly and class was structured very well. Had zero interest in finance before this class but really glad I took it and enjoyed the class |
| Course website, instructors care for students |
| Qin Lei was an amazing professor who explained topics thoroughly and was available in many forms to students. |
| The website was incredibly helpful. Professor Lei is such a thorough professor and he explains the material very clearly. The practice exams for each chapter and video solutions really help |
| Professor was always super prepared and organized, and genuinely wanted students to succeed. Plenty of office hours. |
| I am very grateful for the lecture recordings and videos that are available |
| I greatly appreciated the setup of this course. The Finance website was easy to follow and allowed for an organized format. |
| Very well organized website and always clear in terms of expectations. |
| This course was very well organized, I really like that we can drop an exam if we do the homework it provides a great incentive. There are also a great amount of opportunities for office hours. |
| I really liked how organized the course was, and how many resources were available to students before the midterms. Additionally, I liked that there was trivia every week to encourage students to learn the material weekly. |
| Many forms of practice, allowance of video recordings for athletic missing, homework practice incentive, great professor |
| All of the exam-style practice problems were incredibly helpful in preparing for the exams. I also liked having more exams with less material on each because I had the opportunity to learn all the content and spend time learning the content. Also Prof Lei was great and super helpful throughout the course. I would really recommend him as a professor. |
| Course website was well organized and really helpful for all sorts of questions I may have had. Also, I felt like the work and assignments prepared me well for the exams/exams reflected the content of the course well. |
| The course website and piazza and homework problems were all organized very well and I felt like there was so much to pull from if I had issues. |
| I really appreciated the amount of material we had available to us, including the slides and recordings of lectures, practice exams, and our forum for questions. I was scared to take this class, but, with the material provided (and some hard work), I was able to do well in the class. |
| Having the course website made things very clear and succinct as to where we should expect to manage all of our responsibilities |
| regular homework and practice problems. so many resources for exams. i liked frequency of exams too which helped me keep up with material |
| I think the professor was very supportive and clearly is passionate about finance. |

| Professor Lei was a very organized teacher which aided my understanding of knowing what was expected of me. |
| Good cadence of work and materials available to learn |
| While the McGraw Hill homework assignments were difficult, incentivizing students to complete them truly did help. Additionally, the TA office hours occurring so frequently was very helpful! |
| The attendance policy is good, not super clear, but once understood, makes sense. |
| I do appreciate how this class had a multitude of practice problems available to give us an opportunity to learn how to approach the homeworks and exams. |
