Student Comments

Many students have provided very encouraging comments at the end-of-term evaluations, and here is a collection of comments. Listed below are student comments for just one course.

In Fall 2025, I taught Making Financial Decisions, a BBA level core course at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. Here are some nice things my students said about this course.

Professor Lei genuinely cares about student success. Emails reminders were frequent. Very accessible outside of class. You can basically have your question answered at any time in hours or less. Was always on top on his game and knew exactly what was going on. Possibly helps that he’s taught the same material for 20 years
The personal course website was a huge help in accessing everything you needed for the course and for exam preparation. I also appreciated that lectures were recorded, even if you attended class but wanted to review something from class you missed you had the opportunity.
I loved the video solutions to homework. They explained the material very well.
I really enjoyed the fact that there were lecture recordings for the course this year. I feel as though this was crucial for my ability to understand and digest the content.
Qin was very well prepared, had a lot of helpful supplemental materials, and a website that was easy to navigate and find almost all the questions and information. He cares a lot about this class and his students, which I appreciate. As somebody who has never been interested in Finance, I am glad that he was my professor. I did struggle with a lot of the content, so maybe just more practice problems in class would have been helpful.
Very technical and practically developed, with a rigorously developed curriculum and clear course outline
I loved my professor’s flexible attendance policy. In the first class, I had a hard time understanding him, but online I was able to use closed captions. Ross should require all professors to give this option, particularly professors who wear masks. I applaud Professor Lei for recognizing this, and he contributed to my overall happiness and understanding when watching the lectures as a result.
Outstanding organization and exams reflected the course well.
Qin was really nice and always prepared. the homework assignments were very very helpful!
Allowing asynchronous options, and having problem solving sessions
I like the way the homework was structured and how professor lei presented each topic and was clear for what we would need to know and didn’t waste our time
I think that it was a good course, although difficult in some aspects which is understandable since finance is a tough topic
It was perfect
Homework assignments were useful and helped reinforce concepts. The trading simulation was an engaging learning experience.
great overview of financial concepts
Professor Lei is obviously a very smart and talented professor. We covered a vast range of topics, many of which felt applicable to our personal lives even if we had zero interest in pursuing future careers in finance.
clear slide decks, helpful videos on Qin Lei’s website, lots of resources, easy help
Great teacher, hybrid attendance model was very helpful
Professor was good
The problem sets helped apply the topics we learnt in class good.
good intro, should be taught even more basically
The different attendance option gave students flexibility.
The practice problems were helpful for the exams, but it’s been a hard course to keep up in.
great for high level intuitive learning of finance application but not suitable for introductory course
Very detailed
The strengths were the multiple emails reminding students of each thing that was happening.
Learned a lot of new things
