Many students have provided very encouraging comments at the end-of-term evaluations, and here is a collection of comments. Listed below are student comments for just one course.
In Winter A 2024, I taught Financial Modeling, an MBA level elective course at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. Here are some nice things my students said about this course.
| 1 | The professor has exactly the sort of academic enthusiasm for this subject that a person should seek in a professional master’s program. He understands the application of his subject, but he also appreciates the nuances of it and teaching the basic ideas of it to first-timers. Others with more experience modeling decided to drop this course because they found it too basic from a modeling standpointÍž I think that is a bad way of valuing what this class has to offer. I am glad I took it because I better understand how to set up a model to optimize for a specific quantity and how to think critically about an LBO deal. I’m sure that better, more refined models exist and that in the course of doing this sort of a job I’d learn those methods, but this course provides a fine lens and way of thinking that has set me on a right path. |
| 2 | I enjoyed the modeling exercises. Additionally, I appreciated the professor walking us through the exercises each class and offering a significant amount of resources. The professor was knowledgeable and always well prepared for class. |

I also really liked the many practice opportunities and step by step explanations available on the course website. I appreciated Professor Lei was available for questions and help every week. I just wish I had had more time to take advantage of the opportunities for support. This was a really tough class for me and I didn’t learn as much as I could have if we had slowed down or if I had taken it as my only elective because I had to get other work done at the same time. |
