Student Comments

Many students have provided very encouraging comments at the end-of-term evaluations, and here is a collection of comments. Listed below are student comments for just one course.

In Winter B 2025, I taught Managing OMBA Fund - Part C, an OMBA level elective course at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. Here are some nice things my students said about this course.

1 1. Engaged and Supportive Instructor. Professor Qin was a clear strength of the course. He consistently demonstrated enthusiasm, approachability, and a genuine commitment to making the class valuable. His positive energy, responsiveness, and encouragement created an environment where students felt comfortable reaching out and engaging. It’s clear that he cares deeply about the student experience, and I appreciated his willingness to support us throughout the course. 2. Unique Experiential Learning Opportunity. The opportunity to manage a real investment fund and pitch ideas with actual capital behind them is a standout feature of this course. Few MBA programs offer this kind of hands-on exposure to real-world investing. This structure makes the course inherently engaging and meaningful, and it has strong potential to help students build practical investment skills. 3. Student Ownership and Autonomy. The open-ended nature of the assignments gave students room to explore their own ideas, conduct independent research, and form original theses. While the lack of structure could be challenging at times, the autonomy also encouraged creativity and helped simulate a real-world investing environment in which there’s rarely one *right* answer.
2 One of my favorite classes that really forced me to draw conclusions about the changing world around me and tie it back to quantitative investing. The feedback we got in our presentations and getting to interact with Ross Alum in industry was great and a huge learning experience. Shout out to Peter for being a great ISS
3 Excellent information about utilizing data, understanding risk, and conducting research on company metrics. I will use some of the material in my own portfolio research.
4 I truly appreciate the opportunity to participate in the OMBA Fund and want to acknowledge that Professor Qin is clearly committed to making this course valuable. His enthusiasm and approachability came through, and I hope to stay connected to him beyond the course.
