Student Comments

Many students have provided very encouraging comments at the end-of-term evaluations, and here is a collection of comments. Listed below are student comments for just one course.

In Winter 2023, I taught Making Financial Decisions, a Non-BBA level core course at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. Here are some nice things my students said about this course.

Professor Lei’s commitment to students, detailed explanations and deep knowledge of finance
This course is taught by a veteran. Professor Lei knows EXACTLY how to run this course and I can only imagine how much harder this course would have been had anyone less prepared/knowledgeable been the professor. Professor Lei was very accommodating and responsive to student needs. One of my favorite professors in college (saying this as a second semester senior). Thank you!
I really appreciated the depth and passion Professor Lei managed to fit in such concise lectures. It’s hard to find something that he has not already improved and worked on throughout the years. I feel like I learned more in a shorter amount of time than any other course – and about things that will have a great bearing on my future career and personal finances! He also gave us the materials we needed to go further than what was covered, if we chose.
The professor is always well prepared and makes the material easy to digest. He explains multiple ways to do the same problem and lets us pick which method we prefer. He also clearly explains the shortcomings or common pitfalls many students will run into with any exercise. He does his best to make us prepared for the course material.
This course had the most thorough course information site I’ve ever seen. I am very impressed with the amount of resources Professor Lei gave to us. I think he really cared that we did well in this class. Also, his exam policy regarding dropping one if you do all the homework is genius. Makes us want to do the homework and get 100%, meaning we have to sit down and actually work through the material.
Prof Lei is very enthusiastic to teach a morning class the introduction to financial concepts. It made mundane topics seem more interesting and lively than it typically is taught.
The slides used to teach the content were very informative and there were lots of resources for help outside of class
It was clear that Prof. Lei had a deep understanding of the material and explained things clearly in lecture. Very energetic and passionate about what he was talking about, which was refreshing. I also really like how students were given the option to participate with their preferred lecture mode, whether in-person, synchronous, or asynchronous.
Course site is nice to have everything located on one platform
The plethora of learning materials that are available to students online at all times.
Students held to a high standard; professor available to meet with students during office hours
Lecture material used a lot of real world examples to hammer home concepts, a lot of practice questions for exams, the homework allowing unlimited attempts for questions, ability to schedule office hours outside of the designated office hour times,
I would say the course has its own website and every information are well displayed. Also, there are different kinds of materials that can facilitate our understanding, which is pretty good.
The plethora of resources on the website and it was easy to navigate. Also there were always a lot of office hours to ensure a student could find time to meet after class.
Very in-depth knowledge of the subject, and notes are very well detailed.
I liked the asynchronous option, and that’s what I opted for.
Ensuring fairness across the board.
Very well organized.
I thought there was a lot of information available in this course and felt like I had access to a lot of knowledge and material
Foster my interest for the field
Made sure students were always engaged with a lot of smaller assignments. Was very fair in terms of grading and gave students the opportunity to drop an exam grade
Professor Lei clearly knew the material, was able to explain it clearly to the students, and was motivated in helping them do as well as possible to succeed in this class.
This course greatly expanded my knowledge in finance. I particularly appreciated the opportunity to drop the lowest midterm exam with completion of the homework. I still studied for every exam, but it eased my nerves knowing that if for some reason the exam did not go my way, it could be dropped.
The teacher has his own website, which has everything you need
The teamwork problems were a great addition to this course, and it really helped me a lot.
There was a lot of resources and really strong structure.
The content is very relevant, the professor is well-prepared and very organized.
